Super 1 Round 3 - Larkhall
Turning up on Friday morning, a lot of things were new, Phil had never been to the track before, he was going to be racing in Simon Wright’s awning and he had never used the Wright kart, so it was going to be a hard weekend! All of Friday was spent running engines in and learning the track, with one good session where Phil drove the track as he should have, and he posted a lap 4 tenths off the quickest time, which wasn’t bad seen as though he had only done maybe 30 fast laps. On Saturday the first session went terribly, Phil’s driving seemed to be off, but after he came in, everyone talked and prepared for the next one, in which everything went right, and posted a time 3 tenths off the quickest, so a small improvement from Friday. There were only 3 practice sessions on Saturday, each 20 minutes long, then timed qualifying, which seemed to go well, as Phil read a 36.70 on his Alfano, but the circuit timing picked him up at a 9, which put him in 15th, so a bit of a disappointing one! The heats resulted in bad finishes for Phil, with the chaotic first corner proving to be filled with crashes. He finished way down the order in both heats, although his pace had improved significantly. He started final 1 in about 17th position and made a good start, battling his way through to 12th, before his rear bumper fell off after a collision on the infield part of the circuit. This meant Phil started right at the back in final 2. Phil managed to claw his way up to 12th place by the end of the final, and posted a time within two tenths of the quickest, and the same time as Mark Litchfield. Phil dropped down the order in the championship table to 12th after a dnf in final 1, but not too bad a weekend with the pace being found even if it was only in the last race.
