Shennington - Libre Winter Series Round 2

A miserable weekend for a kart meeting but never the less a full grid of Libre’s were at Shennington. Testing Saturday went pretty well with Phil being not on the pace, but not very far away at all. Phil’s best session showed him a tenth off Litchfield’s pace which was extremely encouraging!
Sunday morning brought rain, oh dear. Luckily, the 3 lap practice was dry and again, pretty quick times, things were looking good. Just before Libre were called down to the grid for the 1st heat, the heavens opened and the circuit was drenched, how much fun. Phil had never driven a Libre in the wet before so it truly was a baptism of fire! Going into the 1st corner things looked pretty good as Phil made his way through the melé and gained quite a few places. He looked for a move into Bruno chicane but was hit from behind and spun out collecting another driver. Phil re-stared himself to finish a credible 14th, posting pretty much the same times as the majority of the field.
In the second heat it was dry and Phil again had a good start but didn’t make it round the hairpin. He restarted again and finished 14th. What was good though was the speed at which Phil caught the other drivers, including his team mate Nik Goodfellow.
Phil Just made the A final with a 19th position. In the final things went from bad to worse, the kart was clearly bent after a first corner battering and Phil looked to be having great difficulty in getting the kart to turn into right hand corners. The kart came clean off the track on 2 occasions after tremendous understeer due to the bent kart, a bit of a bad weekend all round.
