Three Sisters January – Round 2

Phil put his kart on the grid for the 1st session on Saturday and the wind blew a miserable atmosphere over the paddock, how we all love the winter!! With the track not quite dry wets were the tyre choice and Phil was equal on pace with everyone else, Paul Monks didn’t practice in the 1st session as he was suffering from cracked ribs which were obviously too sore to practice. For the rest of the day though, he practiced on his brand new Tonykart and put in some very quick laps as the track dried out. Phil posted a quicker time than Paul by not even a tenth of a second all day, it looked as though it was going to be pretty close! On Sunday it was dry to start with, and Paul took the 1st heat from Phil after a good little battle. Heat two went to Phil with Paul only managing to grab 5th after trouble on the 1st corner. In the final Phil took pole with Monks alongside in 2nd. It was these two who sored away initially with the damp but drying track getting dryer by the minute. Everyone was on wets and Phil had chosen to go with wider rims to try and anticipate the drying track. This evidently was not the right decision as Phil struggled from lap 1. Paul overtook Phil and although he did not pull away at first, he soon started to open up a massive gap. Just to rub salt in the wound James Campion also overtook Phil and denoted him t 3rd. A disappointing final for Phil and H2H but a huge learning curve about the chassis and tyres in those conditions. Well done to Paul for a long awaited, well deserved win.
