Round 6 - Three Sisters
Phil had missed the previous round of the MBKC championship because of the clash with MSA Super 1, so it was vital that good results were obtained from this round. Friday and Saturday practice went smoothly, but weather was dry for testing and had been forecast rain for Sunday, so testing was irrelevant if it wasn’t going to be dry on Sunday.
Sunday came, and so did the rain. Everyone was confused about setups, gearing etc. but Phil went out in 3 lap practice, and him and Monks were the quickest two, so things were looking ok. In the first heat, Phil stated Pole and took the flag, although with a little pressure from Scottish driver Eddie Donald at the beginning of the race. In heat two, Phil started 11th on the grid, with Monks on grid 9 right in front of him, the two diced their way through the field to finish Monks 1st and Phil 2nd, with Ross Davie 3rd and James Truman running well in 4th. The 3rd heat wasn’t such a good race for Phil though as he had started 21st on the gird, he worked his way up to 7th place with two laps to go, this would have surely secured a pole for the final, the ignition box failed as one of the connections came loose. Phil tried to put it back on but obviously got electrocuted every time he tried so he didn’t attempt it many times. Even after the bad result in the 3rd heat Phil still managed to get 3rd on the grid for the final, how he doesn’t know! Phil took Eddie Donald and Monks on the first lap to try and pull away, but the gearing was way out, Phil was losing up to 6 kart lengths down the straight, so Monks was soon past Phil and away into the distance. Phil resigned to the fact he wasn’t going to catch Monks and settled for 2nd, which could have been worse admittedly.
