Three Sisters January – Round 1
A new year, a new kart, and a championship to defend. Phil went into this round for his first title defence as reigning champion of TKM Extreme, and he was going to be racing on Nick Abbott’s Head 2 Head Z1 kart, which Phil had been developing last year. The weekend was a miserable one, as it usually is in January, and wets were the order of the weekend. Saturday testing went well with Phil being quickest all day, with Paul Monks never more than a whisker behind. Only a small grid of TKM drivers made the heats pretty tame. Phil took two 1sts in both heats, with Paul dropping off in one of them. Phil started Pole with fellow H2H Z1 driver Dean Golba lining up alongside him on 2nd. Monks was 3rd and Chris Kasch on 4th. Phil took the lead early doors but was evidently having some teething problems with the kart in the opening laps. Monks took the lead on his Venom Sidewinder and pulled a 6 kart length gap. On lap 6 Phil suddenly found blistering pace and roared on to the back of Monks and after the two had battled for a couple of laps, Phil continued to extend his lead until the end. An extremely successful weekend for Phil and H2H Motorsport, taking a clean sweep in TKM. Phil would like to thank Nick Abbott for everything he has done with the chassis, and is sure that him and H2H will have continued success on the Z1 kart.
